Paisajes y confesiones

Proyecto que reúne dos acciones desarrolladas durante mi proceso de infección, tratamiento y recuperación del Covid-19. La obra consiste en solicitar a mi padre —dirigente del Movimiento Revolucionario Túpac Amaru— y a Rafael —hijo de militantes del MRTA, cuyo padre fue torturado y asesinado por la División de Secuestros de la Policía Nacional del Perú—, residentes en Hamburgo y Bruselas respectivamente, la grabación sonora de los paisajes donde viven, para luego reproducir esos audios dentro de mi propio hogar.

Como gesto retributivo, les envié confesiones personales en forma de correspondencia, las cuales los invité a destruir siguiendo instrucciones específicas diseñadas para cada uno.

Se trata de un juego de acercamiento íntimo, un intento por invocar su presencia a través del sonido dentro de mi casa, y al mismo tiempo ofrecerles la mía por medio de las cartas.

El proyecto reflexiona sobre lo íntimo y lo público; lo interior y lo exterior; el hogar como algo que trasciende lo espacial; la libertad y la prisión. Lo que se confiesa en esas cartas son extractos autobiográficos que abordan la imposibilidad de expresar sentimientos y sensaciones vinculadas a mi condición de hijo de "terroristas", cuyas vidas han sido marcadas como indeseables.

Landscapes and Confessions

This project brings together two actions carried out during my period of infection, treatment, and recovery from Covid-19. The work consists of asking my father —a leader of the Túpac Amaru Revolutionary Movement (MRTA)— and Rafael —the son of MRTA militants whose father was tortured and killed by the Kidnapping Division of the Peruvian National Police—, both residing in Hamburg and Brussels respectively, to record the ambient sounds of the landscapes where they live, which I later played back within my own home.

As a reciprocal gesture, I sent them personal confessions in the form of letters, inviting them to destroy the contents following instructions specifically designed for each of them.

This initiates a game of intimate proximity—an attempt to summon their presence through sound within my domestic space, while offering mine in return through writing.

The project reflects on the boundaries between intimacy and publicity; interior and exterior; the home as something beyond physical space; and the tension between freedom and imprisonment. What is confessed in these letters are autobiographical fragments that speak to the difficulty of expressing emotions and sensations shaped by being the child of so-called “terrorists,” whose lives are marked as undesirable.
